A high surf advisory remains posted for west-facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Sunday.
The large northwest swell fueling surf was expected gradually decline Saturday, but a reinforcing west-northwest swell filling in on Sunday should maintain warning level surf along exposed west-facing shores through Sunday and potentially into Monday, according the Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters.
Wave heights of 6 feet to 8 feet are forecast.
Forecasters cautioned of strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
