It’s more peaceful now.

The volume’s been turned way down, the horrendous wind that blew through our mind and soul is gone. It is the calm after the storm.

The air around us once supercharged with dread and anxiety, is now pure, we breathe easier.

The blustering man that held sway for so long has lumbered away, slouching toward wherever old Republican elephants go to retire.

Since he walked into the sunset the riots have receded, the drums have stopped beating, and the army jacket hordes have been strangely quiet. Their leader is gone and they have no one to show off to. They are lost without him.

He did not go gently into his good night, his last rampage shook the land. Lies Trumpeted loudly and waved their flags. Mindless minions attacked our holiest temple.

We pushed back one final time and he turned and plodded away, his head down, a little more humble.

Now the lawsuits step out of the shadows and begin stalking him.

We hear his bellowing still, echoing in the distance, his empty groans complaining of imaginary wounds he claims he has. His fearful followers trailing behind him as he goes.

It’s only been a month but we rarely hear his name anymore. It’s been deleted, announcers know his time is up, we all do. His show’s over.

Even his followers have pulled up their stakes and gone. They have taken off their red hats and wandered back to the hills. It is over and done.

But look there at our new pert president full of hope. Stepping lively, a walking smile. Everyone loves him and why not, He’s handing out money to everyone. The rioters who would tear down our capitol will get their check, along with the righteous who preserve it. That’s America.

There really is a chicken in every pot.

He looks like he was born to it, sitting in the big chair signing bills, visiting factories, standing up to unfriendly countries, shaking hands with friendly ones.

Putting on the mask fighting the invisible enemy.

His vice president is a sharp woman giving the girls in our country a boost toward their dreams.

You know everything will be OK. He’s a natural. Joe Biden looks like a president, acts like a president and best of all he’s normal. And boy, do we need normal. Even boring is better than wacky.

The world ahead is rocking with storms, so good we have a cool captain at the helm.

After everything’s been up in the air for so long, there is a familiar song we can sing about the future and our new president. It’s just about perfect.

“I get a peaceful, easy feeling, I know you won’t let me down, ‘cause I’m already standing on the ground.”
