Kainaliu search warrant turns up guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and meth

Three guns, 800 rounds of ammunitions and over three-quarters of an ounce of methamphetamine were reportedly located after search warrants were executed Thursday at a North Kona property.

Hawaii Police Department Area II Vice officers executed search warrants at a property off Mamalahoa Highway in Kainaliu Thursday and recovered a total of 23.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a 20 gauge shotgun, a 12 gauge shotgun, a .44 caliber pistol, and more than 800 rounds of various types of rifle, shotgun, and pistol ammunition. Additionally, officers seized $894 for forfeiture.

Three people were arrested at the scene: Gerald Kim and Rory Kim, both 51 and of Kealakekua, and 48-year-old Jelson Leslie of Captain Cook.

Gerald Kim was charged with second-degree promoting a dangerous drug, four counts of firearm ownership/possession prohibited, and contempt of court, according to police. His bail was set at $126,000.

Gerald Kim’s wife, 51-year-old Rory Kim, was charged with third-degree promoting a dangerous drug. Her bail was set at $2,000.

Leslie was also arrested for third-degree promoting a dangerous drug, as well as two counts of failure to appear. He was released pending further investigation for the drug offense, but remained in custody for the failure to appear bench warrants. His bail was set at $650.
