Bartolome Maneja

Bartolome Pasion Maneja, 83, of Keaau, died Feb. 11, 2021, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born Aug. 24, 1937, in Dingas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired plant propagator for the Bureau of Plant Industry in the Philippines, worked at Aloha Welding Shop, McConnell Orchid Nursery and Pacific Floral Resources in Keaau and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. March 12 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 at the chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery (Section K).

He is survived by wife, Filomena Bautista Maneja of Keaau; children, Nerie (Orlino) Padamanda, Marlon (Maryanne) Maneja, Denis (Jocelyn) Maneja, Marivic (Joel) Hernandez and Aldrin (Dolly) Maneja, all of Hawaii, Ernesto (Odette) Maneja of Philippines and Merlyn (Sandre) Adanzo of California; step-son, Greg (Gladys) Dayrit of New Zealand; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Juanito Maneja of Philippines and Rodrigo (Norma) Maneja of California; sister, Virginia Cruz of California; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Jeffrey Bailado

Jeffrey “Jeff” Barauis Bailado, 62, of Ocean View, Hawaii, died Feb. 16, 2021 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hilo on November 21, 1958, he was a retired airport maintenance man. Services will be held at a later date. He is survived by his brothers, Emelio (Goody) Bailado of Germany, Darryl (Mercy) Bailado of Wahiawa, Oahu and Curtis Bailado of Ocean View; sisters, Laveinia (Harry) Respicio of Hilo and Sorania (Eugene) Miller of Ocean View; brother-in-law, Jim Stockman of Reno, NV.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eliane Rees-Thomas

Eliane Rees-Thomas, 84, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 8, 2021, at her residence. Born September 5, 1936, in Chatel-Saint-Denis (Fribourg, Switzerland), she was a teacher, nurse’s aide and homemaker.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 13 at Livingstones Church on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona for a service.

She is survived by husband, David Rees-Thomas of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Michelle (Nick) Romo of Kailua-Kona; son, David Rees-Thomas Jr. of Switzerland; and grandchildren, Edana Rees-Thomas and Cealinn Rees-Thomas.

Michiyo Fukumitsu

Michiyo Fukumitsu, 92, of Keopu, died Feb. 21, 2021, at Captain Cook Care Home. Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Hilo, she was a retired registered nurse and member of Keopu Kumiai.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Ray Fukumitsu and Ross Fukumitsu, both of Keopu, Gregory Fukumitsu of Honolulu, and Eric (Kathy) Fukumitsu of Manteca, California; sisters, Matsue Desaki of Honolulu and Ichiko (Sadao) Okada of Hilo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Esther Lopez

Esther Louise Lopez, 90, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 22, 2021, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Nov. 23, 1930 in Oxnard, CA, she was a retired federal civil service employee at Ft. Ord, CA, a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, volunteer for Hospice of Kona and translation, legal, medical support services to the local Hispanic community.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. March 15 at St. Michaels Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Hospice of Kona, PO Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

She is survived by sons, Stephen (Merry) Lopez of Kailua-Kona, and Charles (Barbara) Lopez of Lincoln, California; daughter, Rebecca (James) King of Auburn, CA; adopted son, Charles Lopez (Kathy) of Yucaipa, CA; sisters Trina Guiterrez of Spreckels, CA, Anita Weimer of Salinas, CA, Amelia Tognazzini of Capitola, CA; and numerous grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
