The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,302 Thursday with eight new cases reported.
Statewide, a total of 60 new cases were reported Thursday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 30 of those cases, Maui County 18 and Kauai none. Four residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 28,081 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Thursday had a 1.4% test positivity rate, above the statewide rate of 1.2%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 66 cases or an average of 7.1 cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 25 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days.
Statewide, 27 people were hospitalized Thursday, none of whom were receiving care on the Big Island. To date, 2,235 people have required hospitalization, including 115 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Thursday by the state. Of the 448 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 356 were on Oahu, 35 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
