The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,343 Tuesday with eight new cases reported.
Statewide, a total of 48 new cases were reported Tuesday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 30 of those cases, Maui County seven and Kauai one. Two resident was diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 28,352 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Tuesday had a 1.2% test positivity rate, just over the statewide rate of 1.1%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 95 cases or an average of 6.8 cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 28 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days. The Hilo area has reported 19 while the Keaau area has reported 14.
Statewide, 22 people were hospitalized Tuesday,with no hospitalizations on the Big Island. To date, 2,256 people have required hospitalization, including 117 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Tuesday by the state. Of the 451 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 359 were on Oahu, 35 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
