The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,354 Thursday with seven new cases reported.

Statewide, a total of 88 new cases were reported Thursday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 38 of those cases, Maui County 41 and Kauai had no new cases. Two resident was diagnosed while outside the state.

Statewide, to date, there have been 28,509 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Thursday had a 1.2% test positivity rate, just over the statewide rate of 1.1%.

Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 102 cases or an average of 7.3 cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 30 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days. The Hilo area has reported 19 while the Keaau area has reported 18.

Statewide, 21 people were hospitalized Thursday, with one hospitalizations on the Big Island. To date, 2,259 people have required hospitalization, including 118 on the Big Island.

No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Thursday by the state. Of the 451 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 359 were on Oahu, 35 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.

No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
