The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,392 Wednesday with seven new cases reported.
Statewide, a total of 58 new cases were reported Wednesday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 24 of those cases, Maui County 23 and Kauai had one new case. Three residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 28,950 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Wednesday had a 0.9% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.4%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 98 cases or an average of seven cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 29 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days. The Hilo area has reported 25 while the Keaau area has reported 16.
Statewide, 33 people were hospitalized Wednesday, with no hospitalizations on the Big Island. To date, 2,280 people have required hospitalization, including 118 on the Big Island.
Three new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Wednesday by the state. Of the 457 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 363 were on Oahu, 37 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
