David Kawauchi

David Akira Kawauchi, 73, of Kahilipali Iki, Ka’u, died Feb. 28, 2021, in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired major for the Hawaii Police Department and member of SHOPO, the former member of the Ka’u Lions Club, Ka’Ohana O Honuapo and Ka’u Preservation.

Private services to be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Jamie Kawauchi; daughters, Dorae (Bruno) Kim, and Jamae (James Takamine) Kawauchi; sister, Sandra Nakagawa; brothers, Kenji Kawauchi and Clyde Kawauchi; and three grandchildren.

Vladimir Skorikov

Vladimir Borisovich Skorikov, 61, of Hilo, died Feb. 21, 2021, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Moscow, he was professor of psychology with the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

He is survived by wife, Deborah Hashimoto-Skorikov of Hilo; daughter, Marina Skorikova of Moscow, Russia; parents, Boris Skorokov and Vladimira Petrenko of Moscow, Russia; brother, Andrey Skorikov of Moscow, Russia; step-children, Brandon Hamamoto and Quinn Hamamoto of Hilo; one granddaughter; one cousin, and three nephews.

Eleanor Helfrich

Eleanor Jane Helfrich, 73, of Hilo died on March 16, 2021, at her residence. Born in Peoria, Ill., she was a member of the former Hilo Day Activity Center and a Special Olympics swimmer.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. April 10 at Coconut Island (Mokuola) for a service; weather permitting. Casual attire. Burial at Hawaii Veterans Cemetry No. 2 will take place at a later date.

She is survived by sisters, Mary (Kenneth) Uyeda of Hilo, Liz Barton of Mountain View, Cathy Williams of South Point, and Christina (Leonard) Gouw of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brother, Thomas (Muilan) Helfrich of Mountain View; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Hori Sr.

Richard Yasuo Hori Sr., 88, of Kohala, died March 21, 2021, at home. Born June 7, 1932, in Kohala, he was a former owner and baker for Holy’s Bakery in Manoa, Oahu, and worked for Duty Free Store on Oahu.

No services.

He is survived by children, Deborah Hori Kaholoa’a, Robin Hori, Richard Hori Jr. and Joel Hori; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
