William Valera

William Ruden Valera, 85, of Paauilo, died March 1, 2021, at Kaiser Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Paauhau, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 17 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial at Honokaa Catholic Church Cemetery.

He is survived by children, Renee (Greg) Hanneman of Gladstone, Oregon, Randy Valera of Honokaa, Lance (Cora) Valera of Kona, and Elson (Becky) Valera of Redmond, Oregon; brother, Alfred (Yuki) Panela of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Andrea Abarcar of Paauhau and Beatrice Cabral of Ookala; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Monica Micua

Monica “Oning” Niro Micua, 87, formerly of Hilo, died March 19, 2021, at her residence in Salem, Oregon. Born in Oaqui, Luna, La Union, Philippines, she was a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 10 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for 10:30 a.m. service. Livestreaming will be available. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section). A memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by son, Noren (Laurie) Micua of Volcano; daughter, Mary (Keith Sr.) Bondaug of Oregon; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephina Gempis of Philippines and Marcy (Jun) Baugbog of Hilo; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Shane Chew

Shane Kuhio Chew, 42, of Keaau, died Dec. 6, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Oct. 3, 1978, in Hilo, he was a former senior airman for the U.S. Air Force.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by companion, Lovisa Baysa; father, Joseph Chew Sr. of Hawaiian Paradise Park; mother, Beverly Chew of Hawaiian Paradise Park; brothers, Joseph Chew Jr. of Hawaiian Paradise Park and Allen Chew of Alabama; sister, Shirley Pauole of Hawaiian Paradise Park; and nieces and nephews.

Teri-Lee Lidstone-Whitney

Teri-Lee Lidstone-Whitney, 53, of Hilo, died April 1, 2021, at her residence. Born May 5, 1967, in Kailua, Oahu, she was a medical transporter for Ace One Taxi in Hilo.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, Robert Whitney, Sr. of Hilo; children, Kanamu Mederios, Robert (Puanani) Whitney Jr. and Kishia (Jovon) Garrett of Hawaii; parents, Elianne Vannatta and Steward Lidstone of Hawaii; and seven grandchildren.

Helie Rohner

Helie Hannah Rohner, 98, of Hilo, died March 25, 2021, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was the owner of the former Koehnen’s Interiors.

Private services held.

She is survived by son, Randy (Vicki) Rohner of Kona; daughter, Karyl (Alfred) Franks of Hilo; hanai daughters, Mari Jaeger of California and Joan Machado of Honolulu; two grandsons; and three nieces.
