The Big Island Wednesday reported five new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total case count to 2,546 since Feb. 28, 2020. .
Statewide, 76 new cases were reported by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 51 of those cases, Maui County 15 and Kauai none. Five residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 30,363 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Wednesday had a 1.6% test positivity rate, just under the statewide rate of 1.7%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 154 cases or an average of 9.4 cases per day.
The majority of cases reported on the Big Island in the past 14 days were in East Hawaii with 54 reported in Hilo and 12 in the Mountain View Area. Kailua-Kona reported 40.
Statewide, 50 people were hospitalized Wednesday, with four hospitalized on the Big Island. To date, 2,364 people have required hospitalization, including 121 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Wednesday. Of the 467 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 369 were on Oahu, 41 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
