The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count reached 2,644 with two new cases reported by state health officials on Monday.
Statewide, 65 new cases were reported Monday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 52 of those cases, Maui County 10 and Kauai reported no new cases. One resident was diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, 31,446 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since the end of last February. The Big Island had a 1.3% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.6%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 106 cases, or an average of 8.7 cases per day. In the past 14 days, 43 new cases have been reported in Kailua-Kona and 26 in Hilo. Most other areas of the island are reporting less than 10 cases per day.
On Monday, 45 people were hospitalized across the state, including six on the Big Island. To date, 2,414 people have required hospitalization, including 127 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state Monday. Of the 474 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 370 were on Oahu, 46 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
Statewide, 1,064,942 total vaccinations had been administered as of Monday afternoon. This number reflects 35% of the state’s population initiating the vaccine and 25% completing the process.
On the Big Island, 30% — or 47,295 residents — are fully vaccinated. Some 72,907 or 46% of the population has received their initial dose.
