Kahilu Exhibits presents ‘Thresholds, Journeys with Fibers and Fronds’
Kahilu Exhibits will present a solo exhibition, “Thresholds, Journeys with Fibers and Fronds” by Lynn Martin Graton through June 21 in the Simperman and Hamakua Galleries of the Kahilu Theatre.
The exhibit will feature both woven textiles and coconut fiber basketry. In the Simperman Gallery, Graton is expanding upon traditional loom weaving techniques to create textiles that echo ancient traditions of meditative scrolls and fabrics that define sacred spaces. In the Hamakua Gallery, the exhibition will feature traditional coconut basketry Lynn learned over four decades ago from master weavers on the remote islands of Micronesia, Fiji, and Tahiti. There will be a virtual gallery walk-through with the artist available for free on KahiluTV.
The Kahilu Galleries are free and open to the public for gallery viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at 67-1186 Lindsey Road.
Chamber Music Series continues Sunday
Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble continues its Chamber Music Series via YouTube Live Stream at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The program will feature romantic chamber music and salon. Performing will be Elise Doran on violin, Roland Maurer on oboe, English-horn, bassoon, and Ursula Hesse on piano.
The ensemble asks those who view the performance to donate to The Food Basket online at www.hawaiifoodbasket.org.
KVA featuring Jaeger in May
The Kailua Village Artists featured member artist for the month of May is stained glass artist Bill Jaeger.
This month Jaeger will feature a new piece called “Kona Sunburst,” a stunning 29- by 41-inch celebration of the sunshine and island flora that makes Kona so special. He will also be showcasing bevel pineapples and honus in various sizes and shapes including his well-known bevel “Honu Twins” and “Red Bevel Pineapple.” Fans of his work will be happy to see a full range of local favorites — nightlights, sun catchers, and smaller stained-glass panels as well.
Jaeger learned the art of stained glass many years ago, while also working full time and earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Wichita State University and an master’s degree from the University of Kansas. It was not until he and his wife, Kathleen, moved to the Big Island in 2004 that he had the luxury to completely immerse himself in the art and stretch his creative capabilities. Since then, he has developed a style and skill evident in every piece he makes; each being an original design created out of hand cut glass then soldered together using the copper foil method.
To meet featured artist Bill Jaeger and see his latest work, come, and talk story with him at the gallery on May 16 or May 31. While working in the gallery, he will be demonstrating some stained-glass techniques used to create a panel, such as glass cutting and foiling.

Amelotte to be featured by Blue Sea Artisans
The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of May is vintage jewelry artist Cathie Ann Amelotte.
The gallery is now in its 12th year, and Amelotte is one of the founding members of the Blue Sea Artisans. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of her ohana migrating to Hawaii when she was a teenager. In honor of this she will be offering 50% off of certain items and a complementary unique gift for purchases over $50.
Her jewelry containing vintage crystals, beads, shells and distinguishable organic components bringing forth and honoring the past. The combination of previously loved or re-purposed items and components with modern characteristics result in a beautifully unique, distinctive style and design.
Amelotte can be visited at the gallery from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wedensdays during May.
For Mother’s Day and the whole month of May the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery offers a free 11- by 14-inch matted printed from Nicolina Rinaldi with the purchase of $100 of art from any artist, or a combination of artists.
