Once more, another four COVID-19 cases for Big Island

Four new COVID-19 cases were reported Saturday on the Big Island, bringing the total case count to 2,668.

Statewide, 51 new cases were reported on Saturday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 40 of those cases, Maui County five and Kauai two. No residents were diagnosed while outside the state.

Statewide, 31,802 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since the end of last February. The Big Island has a 0.9% test positivity rate on Saturday, under the statewide rate of 1.5%.

Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 95 cases, or an average of 6.8 cases per day. Thirty-one of those cases were reported in Kailua-Kona and 32 in Hilo. Most other areas of the island are reporting less than 10 cases per day.

On Saturday, 45 people were hospitalized across the state, including four on the Big Island. To date, 2,441 people have required hospitalization, including 129 on the Big Island.

One new coronavirus-related death was reported in Oahu by the state on Saturday. Of the 478 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 372 were on Oahu, 48 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.

As of Saturday, 31% or 49,738 Big Island residents have been fully vaccinated. 47% or 74,743 individuals have initiated their first vaccine. These figures do not include doses from Federal Pharmacy Programs for long term care facilities and nursing homes or other federal agencies.
