No injuries were reported Saturday after a 2019 pickup truck and trailer became submerged while trying to place a boat in the water at Honokohau Small Boat Harbor.

Responding to the 10:29 a.m. alarm, Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived at the mauka boat ramp to find submerged in about 10 feet of water a black 2019 Toyota Tacoma double-cab with EZ loader trail still attached.

The department said the sole occupant had placed his vessel into the water and exited the water to secure it to the dock. At some point during that process, the unoccupied vehicle and trailer made its way down the ramp into approximately 10 feet of water.

A private tow company was called to assist. Rescue 7 divers assisted the tow company with securing the vehicle for extrication.

The department said the vehicle was in park, with the emergency brake engaged. The cause of the incident is being investigated by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

No injuries were reported.
