Claude Martel

Claude Martel, 76, of Kailua-Kona, died April 17, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1944, in Quebec City, Canada, he was a videographer for the Canadian Broadcasting Company.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Hermelita Martel of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Marie-Claude (Robert Maurice) Martel and Eveline Martel, both of Montreal, Canada; brother, Marcel (Rejeanne) Martel of Quebec; sisters, Aline (Rejean) Boudreau and Liz Martel, all of Quebec, Canada; stepson, Eric Corrales; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lloyd Berman

Lloyd Roswell “Kona” Berman, of Kailua-Kona, died April 13, 2021, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Sept. 29, 1938, in Kealakekua, he was a salesman for the Kona Gas Co., a bellman at the former Kona Surf Hotel, a security officer at the Keahole-Kona International Airport, a member of the Kona Athletics Softball Club, Christ Church Episcopal Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Services will be announced at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Ulalia Berman of Kailua-Kona; sons, Michael (Lisa) Berman and Analu Berman, all of Kailua-Kona and Lono Ikuwa of Kalaoa, Kona; daughter, Hoolai(Jack) Berman of Kailua-Kona; several brothers and sisters; numerous grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerald Boteilho

Gerald “Jerry” Anthony Boteilho, 75, of Waimea, died March 27, 2021. Born Sept. 30, 1945, in Makawao, Maui, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the state, a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by wife, Valerie Boteilho of Waimea; daughter Leah Boteilho of Mililani, Oahu; son, Chad Boteilho of Nu’uanu, Oahu; two grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Myra) Boteilho of Kohala, Stanley (Carmela) Boteilho of Kalopa, Franklin (Paula) Boteilho of Kona, Wayne (Iris) Boteilho of Pa’auilo, and James (Darla) Boteilho of Hilo; sister, Joanne (Manfred) Branco of Ahualoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Else De Mello

Else Mary De Mello, 93, of Captain Cook, died April 2, 2021, at Florie’s Care Home. Born June 17, 1927, in Seattle, she was a retired distribution coordinator for Sears and Roebuck and member and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Services held.

She is survived by sons, John (Roberta) De Mello Jr. of Captain Cook, and Michael De Mello, Adrian (Larond) De Mello and James De Mello, all of Hilo; daughter, Ramah Peery of Hawaii; and numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Margaret Penrose

Margaret “Maggie” Spinney Penrose, 89, of Kailua-Kona, died March 22, 2021, at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born Aug. 26, 1931, in Kailua-Kona, she was a PBX operator at the former Kona Surf Hotel, and a member of the American Business Women’s Association, South Kona Aloha Lioness Club, Kona Crime Prevention Committee, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Soroptimists International Club of Kona and ILWU local #142.

Private services.

She is survived by son, Michael (Adeline) Silva of Kailua-Kona; brother, Charles Spinney of Honolulu; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
