Eutiquia Valdez

Eutiquia “Isiang” Ganado Valdez, 99, of Hawi, died April 22, 2021, at her residence. Born in Candon, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a retired nut picker for the Kohala Macadamia Nut Plantation and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi and the Kohala Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. May 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a service. Burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery.

She is survived by son, Efren (Evelyn) Valdez of Hawi; daughters, Ester (Carlos) Alinan and Nenita Castro, all of Hawi, Clarita Lima of Manila, Philippines, and Aida (Eddie) Corpuz of Ookala; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Adiong Ganado and Ernesto Ganado, both of the Philippines.

Anita Calso

Anita Caberto Calso, 70, of Hilo, died May 1, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 18, 1950, Narvacan, Philippines, she worked for a private hotel cleaning services company.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. May 16 at Dodo Motuary chapel for a 4:30 p.m. service. Cremation to follow.

She is survived by husband, Andres Calso of Hilo; daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Barcena of Philippines; two grandsons; brother, Joel Caberto of Philippines; sister, Rosita Caberto of Philippines; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Greta Teves

Greta Joyce Teves, 92, of Volcano, died April 21, 2021, at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired registered nurse, volunteer Red Cross nurse and member of Saint Theresa Parish and Volcano Senior Citizens Club.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 18 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau for a 10 a.m. Mass. Graveside committal service follows at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 committal shelter. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Rondolph Teves of Kailua, Oahu, and Adolph Teves of Volcano; daughter, Bridget Dove of Volcano; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elaine Sako

Elaine Matsumi Sako, 94, of Hilo died April 14, 2021, at her residence. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired cafeteria cook at Hilo High School and E.B. de Silva Elementary School and a member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held. The family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by son, Warren (Janet) Sako of Kurtistown; daughter, Wanda Sako of Hilo; brothers, Manabu (Glenda) Murakane and Oran (Corliss) Murakane, all of Honokaa; sisters, Kumiko Nakashima, Amy Aoyagi, and Corliss Hirae, all of Hilo, Kathleen New of Las Vegas, and Karen Yamaoka of Honolulu; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
