The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,864 Wednesday with nine new cases reported.
Statewide, 50 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 30 of those cases on Oahu, seven in Maui County and none on Kauai. Four cases were residents diagnosed out of state. Since the end of last February, 35,974 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 61 cases, or an average of 4.4 cases per day. The Kailua-Kona and Hilo areas reported 18 and 15 cases, respectively.
The Big Island Wednesday had a 1.1% positivity rate, over the statewide rate of 1%.
Also Wednesday, a total of 43 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals with three reported on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Wednesday. Of the 496 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 384 were on Oahu, 54 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
