Fire officials are investigating the case of a late Saturday structure fire in Hawaiian Ocean Estates in Ka‘u.

Responding to the 10:18 p.m. report, Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived in the area of Coral Parkway and Kamehameha Avenue to find a 100-square-foot shed and one bedroom of a two-bedroom, 800-square-foot main structure engulfed in flames with fire spreading to a vehicle.

According to neighbors, the owners of the single-story home were on vacation on the mainland at the time of the fire.

Damage was estimated at $80,000.
