Dozens of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts throughout West Hawaii gathered at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery on Saturday morning to place American flags at each grave ahead of Memorial Day.
“It’s about memorializing all the military,” said John Landers, Cubmaster for Waikoloa Cub Scout Pack 38. “They gave their lives for us; this is our time to remember friends, family who have passed on, who gave their all for what we stand for. These kids are our future. The kids will understand this better; that people died for our country.”
The flags remained in place for Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony, which will be held at 11 a.m.
