Nine new COVID-19 cases were reported on the Big Island Saturday, bringing the island’s total case count at 3,005.
Statewide, 64 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 41 of those cases on Oahu, 13 in Maui County and one on Kauai. Since the end of last February, 36,535 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
The Big Island had a 3.6% positive rate, over the state’s 1.1% positivity rate on Saturday.
Also Saturday, a total of 36 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals with four reported on the Big Island.
The Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC) reported 126 inmate test results received as part of the mass testing effort underway at the facility. Of that number, 37 were positive and 89 were negative. That brings the total active inmate cases to 136. Of the 39 staff test results received, one was positive and 38 were negative, bringing the total staff cases to 11.
One new coronavirus-related death on Oahu was reported on Saturday. Of the 502 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 389 were on Oahu, 55 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
