Milolii man charged with multiple crimes

Hawaii Island police detectives have charged 37-year-old Brian Kahele, of Milolii, for multiple offenses that occurred in the Captain Cook area over the past weekend.

On Monday, May 31 at approximately 4 p.m., Kona Patrol officers responded to the area of Old Government Road in Captain Cook after the victim reported that an unknown person had damaged two tires of the victim’s vehicle.

On the same day at approximately 7:30 p.m., Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of gunshots, also in the area of Old Government Road, and found damage to the same victim’s vehicle consistent with being shot with a firearm. Area checks were conducted, however, the suspect could not be located at the time.

Officers continued their investigation and were able to identify the suspect Kahele.

On June 2 shortly after 9:30 a.m., Detectives with the Area II Juvenile Aid Section located and arrested Kahele in Kailua-Kona without incident.

On Thursday after conferral with prosecutors, Kahele was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal property damage and one count each of first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering. His bail was set at $72,000.00 which was maintained Friday in Kona District Court. He is scheduled to appear Monday for a preliminary hearing.
