The Big Island’s COVID-19 case tally reached 3,090 Friday with the announcement of 30 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
Statewide, 78 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 33 of those cases on Oahu, 10 in Maui County and zero on Kauai. Five cases were among residents diagnosed out of state.
Since the end of last February, 36,871 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
The Big Island had a 2.6% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 0.9% positivity rate on Friday. Over the last 14 days, 214 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 13.3 cases per day. Most of the cases are tied to an outbreak at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Friday. Of the 505 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 392 were on Oahu, 55 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
