Don Batalona

Don Symphoroso Batalona, 77, of Hilo, died June 9, 2021, at his residence, born on July 16, 1943, in Honolulu, he was a retired senior project supervisor for Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. and Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).

He is survived by wife, Gail Batalona of Hilo; children, Shane Batalona, Jerone Batalona, Darryl (Shereen) Batalona and Dennis (Tiffany) Batalona of Oahu, Leisley (Douglas) Cobile and Downy (Leroy) Vincent of Hilo, Lawrence (Malia) Figueroa of Maui; brothers, Daniel Batalona of Alaska, Donald Bateluna of Arizona and George Palolo of Oahu; sisters, Lucille Fernandez of Honolulu and Stephanie Ozoa of Lanai; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry Lee Kwai

Harry Ah Sun Lee Kwai, 73, of Woodburn, Oregon, died May 15, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 29, 1947, in Honolulu, he was a retired marketing sales manager in public relations for a cable television company.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sons, Max (J.J.) Lee Kwai of Oregon and Joshua (Ethel Antonio) Lee Kwai of California; daughters, Jodie (L.J.) Kelly of Oregon and Jessi (Dean) Lee Kwai Wandler of Langley, British Columbia; brother, Mervin (Diane Spahr) Lee Kwai of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Kailianu (Alan) Michaels of Virginia and Sylvia Penaroza of Kaneohe, Oahu; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernard Elders

Bernard “Barney” Elders, 76, of Laupahoehoe, died May 20, 2021, at his residence. Born in San Francisco, he was a retired attorney and also worked at HELCO as a land administrator.

Private services held.

He is survived by wife, Pam of Laupahoehoe.

Brian Pa

Brian Keith Keahi Ula O Kehena Pa, 47, of Nevada, died Jan. 30, 2021, in Nevada. Born in Hilo, he was a construction laborer and subcontractor and a member of the Men of Pa‘a.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Private service to be held at 10:30 a.m.

He is survived by companion, Earlanne Leite Leslie of Kauai; children, Blake Pa Moreno and Derek (Tyana Yamamoto) Pa Moreno of Waikoloa, Noah Santa Isabel of Keaau and Haylee Jardine of Washington; two grandchildren; hanai son, Ashton Salboro of Keaau; mother, Patience Abraham of Keaukaha; sisters, Melody (Jacob) Freeman of Waiakea, Renee Saiki Abraham of Keaukaha and Betty Ann Pauline of Hilo; and numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Edna Baldado

Edna Noelani Baldado, 84, of Hilo, died June 2, 2021, in Hilo. Born Oct. 31, 1936, in Kona, she was a registered nurse at Hilo Medical Center and a member of the Berean Bible Church.

She is survived by sons, Robert Glenn (Sheila) Baldado of Keaukaha, and Dale Kainoa Baldado of Kihei, Maui; two grandchildren; brothers, William (Mary) Nicol of Florida and Kenneth (Margarete) Nicol of Kahaluu, Oahu; sister, Lucia Minau of Hookena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
