Benito Abellera

Benito Delos Santos Abellera, 101, of Pahala, died May 27, 2021, at Ka’u Hospital. Born May 5, 1920, in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines, he retired from Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. – Ka’u Division as a hand harvester and was a member of the Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. June 27 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 3 p.m. service. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.

He is survived by sons, Alfonso (Zoraida) Abellera, Ernest (Pilar) Abellera and Efren (Maile) Abellera of Pahala; daughters, Juanita Gacura and Lolita (George) Pagulayan of Philippines; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ralph Hein

Ralph “Captain” Vincent Hein, 64, of Kailua-Kona, died June 17, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1956, in Los Angeles.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by brother, Dale Martin of Ocean View; sisters, Cynthia Hein Mayo of Kihei, Maui and Susan (Stanley) Oshiro of Kailua-Kona; and four nephews and two nieces.

Lawrence Kaloi Jr.

Lawrence K. Kaloi Jr., 68, of Hilo, died June 6, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 15, 1952, in Hilo, he was a retired drywall installer and a member of New Hope East Hawaii.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. June 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Cremation to follow. Aloha attire; no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Evonne Kaloi of Hilo; daughters, Kari Kaloi of Hilo and Kyra (Amanda Santos) Kaloi of Kansas City, MO; sons, Lawrence (Shelbi Mahuna) Kaloi III, Samuel (Ashley Gouvea) Kaloi and Kyle Kaloi, all of Hilo; brothers, Lelund Kaloi, Leonard (Kehau) Kaloi and Lyle Kaloi, all of Honolulu; sister, Memory Hanakeawe of Oahu; four grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
