A high surf advisory is in effect through Wednesday afternoon for south-facing shores of the Big Island.
Surf along south-facing shores was expected to quickly rise to advisory levels Sunday evening through Tuesday as a long-period, south swell arrives and moves through, according to the National Weather Service’s Forecast Office in Honolulu. Wave heights of 8 to 12 feet are forecast through at least 6 p.m. Wednesday.
“This will be a long-lived event with surf likely holding at or slightly above the advisory level through the day Wednesday as the swell begins to ease,” forecasters said.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and to exercise caution.
