Kahakai holding student registration through July 16

Kahakai Elementary School is holding registration for all grades.

Registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through July 16. Full face-to-face learning will take place during the 2021-22 academic year.

Credit union awards scholarships

HFS Federal Credit Union recently awarded $25,000 in scholarships to Big Island students.

Each student will receive $2,500 to help fund their 2021-22 school year. The 2021 scholarship recipients were Nicholas Barrick (Hawaii Preparatory Academy); Kyrie Bartolome (Waiakea High School); Alexander Bell (Kealakehe High School); Reygenald Ines (Kealakehe High School); Jairus Iwasaki (University of Hawaii at Manoa); Leilani Penaloza (Brigham Young University Hawaii); Sophia Perry (Kamehameha Schools Hawaii); Mersaydeez Rocha (Konawaena High School); Sheilyn Subia (Honokaa High and Intermediate School); and Elimar Valencia Utrera (University of Rochester).

Over the past 10 years, HFS FCU has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to over 60 student members to assist with their college expenses. HFS FCU releases applications at the beginning of each year, offering scholarships for both graduating Big Island high school seniors pursuing a two- or four-year degree, as well as current college students.
