Units from the Hawaii Fire Department and Pohakuloa Training Area are fighting a brush fire on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, makai of Old Saddle Road. As of press time, 500 acres have burned. The fire is not contained, and is moving northwest near the hunter check-in station. The blaze is under investigation.

They are using existing fire breaks to contain the blaze, and setting back fires to limit its advance. As of 6:30 p.m., significant wind in the area was making it difficult to manage the progress. Fire crews are monitoring the fire to ensure the safety of the Girl Scout camp, which is only a half-mile away.

Saddle Road is now open to travelers.
