Walmart hosting free Wellness Day events Saturday

Walmart is inviting customers to take control of their health at Walmart Wellness Day, a free event on Saturday, where they can get health screenings and wellness resources at pharmacies statewide, as well as immunizations in one easy location.

The goal of Walmart Wellness Day is to help customers get back on track with preventive health measures they may have missed over the past year, especially as many families prepare for in-person work and school this fall.

More than 4,700 Walmart pharmacies nationwide, including the Kailua-Kona and Hilo locations, will host Walmart Wellness Day events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. Offered will be: free health screenings, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and vision screenings; educational health resources and consultations with the pharmacy team; affordable immunizations, including measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), HPV, tetanus, whooping cough (TDAP) and more; and free COVID-19 vaccines.

Walmart pharmacies have been hosting Walmart Wellness Days since 2014 and have administered more than 4.75 million free health screenings for customers during that time.

Free digital readiness classes extended

In-person free introductory computer classes at University of Hawaii Community College campuses and some public libraries throughout the state will continue to be offered through September.

The three-hour “digital readiness” classes are open to all Hawaii residents 18 years and older who want to improve their digital literacy. The course is designed to help those with little or no computer knowledge.

More than 200 students have already increased their digital skills through these classes. Participating campuses are Hawaii Community College, Honolulu Community College, Kauai Community College, Kapiolani Community College, UH Maui College and Windward CC.

To register for digital readiness classes at a participating location, call (808) 235-7334. Students who complete this course will receive a year subscription to NorthStar’s online courses where they can increase their digital literacy or acquire other workforce skills.

UH Community Colleges began offering the digital readiness program in May in partnership with the Workforce Development Council and the Hawaii State Public Library System.
