Pilar “Pi” Llantero Ucol, 82, of Keaau, died July 14, 2021, at his residence. Born Oct. 6, 1938, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she worked for Diamond Head Papaya Co.

She is survived by sons, Fermiliano (Jocelyn) Ucol of Keaau and Ermin (Estrella) Ucol of Texas; daughters, Kathleen (Al) Umayas and Angelita Ucol Diaz of Keaau; brother, James Llantero of California; sisters, Visitacion (Clemente) Manibog of Oahu and Emerenciana (Andres) Tamayo of Hilo; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sue Kojima
Sue Someko Kojima, 91, of Hilo, died May 6, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired shipping clerk for the former Hawaiian Equipment and a member of the Hilo Church of the Nazarene.

Patrick Lawrence
Patrick John Lawrence, 69, of Honomu, died July 11, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 27, 1951, in Hilo, he was the proprietor/owner of P. Lawrence Contracting, Hawaii Army National Guard veteran and member of KIAA, Hawaii Transportation Association and the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Honomu.

Bernard Soares-Teves
Bernard “Bud” Philip Soares-Teves, 66, of Waikoloa and formerly of Manoa, Oahu, died on June 21, 2021, at his residence. Born March 21, 1955 in Honolulu, he was retired from Oahu Transit Services and was a bus driver for Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 28 at Diamond Head Memorial Park Chapel on Oahu for a 10:30 a.m. service followed by a celebration of life. Casual/aloha attire, flowers welcome. A scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.

Veronica Maile (Kapahua/Kamelamela) Magno, 77, of Hilo, died June 18, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 10, 1943, in Hilo, she was a retired reservation supervisor for the Naniloa Hotel, cashier for Da Store in Hilo and member of New Hope Hilo.

Arnold Akau Sr., 68, of Waimea, died June 13, 2021, at his residence. He was a retired business owner and welder/foreman for Parker Ranch.

Timothy Martin Carl Watters, 74, of Captain Cook, died June 3, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 3, 1946, in San Diego, he was an electrician, a member of Bible First Mission Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.
