Ronald Young

Ronald Robert Young, 82, of Waimea, died May 26, 2021, at Kohala Hospital. Born in Honolulu and was a retired supervisor with the County of Hawaii Deptartment of Public Works, Road Maintenance division and a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 31 at the family residence in Waimea for a 10:30 a.m prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Waimea Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire. For more information call (808) 345-5382.

He is survived by daughter, Kimberly (Linda J. Tester) Young of Waimea; hanai son, Eliott Kaono of Waimea; brothers, Woodrow (Erlinda) Young and Wardell Young of Waimea; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Karen Sakai

Karen Lei Sakai, 79, of Hilo died June 7, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired cashier for Safeway in Hilo, and a volunteer with the Boys Scouts of America, Aloha Council, Pukahi District.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. July 31 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion; service at 11:30 a.m. with inurnment to follow. Casual attire.

She is survived by children, Lawrence (David) Sakai, Karl (Novelie) Sakai, Melanie (David) Shiraishi, and Dayne Sakai; brother, Stanley (Faith) Kubo Jr.; and five grandchildren.

Darren Hopfe Sr.

Darren Isaac Hopfe Sr., 52, of Mountain View, died June 15, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 27, 1969, in Honolulu, he was an auto mechanic.

No services are planned.

He is survived by father, Herman Hopfe and stepmother, Ethel Hoggatt of Captain Cook; sons, Darren Hopfe II, of Texas and Alika Hopfe of Alaska; daughters, Julie Hopfe and Legacy Uyeda, both of Keaau; stepson, Chance De Costa of Mountain View.

Randolph Akui

Randolph “Randy” Akima Akui, 77, of Hilo, died July 14, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 29, 1944, in Hilo, he was a security guard for the former Wackenhut.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He isurvived by wife, Debrah Akui of Hilo; son, Wade Akui of Hilo; brother, Roderick (Sheila) Akui of Hilo; sisters, Puanani Kea of Las Vegas and Cynthia DeCoito of Hilo; and four grandchildren.

Clive Yoshitomi

Clive Toshiyuki Yoshitomi, 97, of Hilo, died July 10, 2021, at Hawaii Care Choice Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Kohala, he was retired mechanic for the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co., fisherman and U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

He is survived by son, Alvin (Susan) Yoshitomi of Aiea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
