27 new COVID cases reported Tuesday

Twenty-seven new COVID-19 cases were reported on the Big Island Tuesday, sending the island’s total case count to 3,767.

Of the 162 new cases reported by the Department of Health on Tuesday, 106 were on Oahu, 11 in Maui County and four on Kauai. Fourteen cases were among residents diagnosed out of state.

Since the end of last February, 40,984 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.

The Big Island had a 7.1% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 4.7% positivity rate on Tuesday. Over the last 14 days, 389 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 38.4 cases per day.

There were 103 individuals statewide hospitalized on Tuesday including ten on the Big Island.

No new deaths attributed to the virus were reported on Tuesday. Of the 529 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 410 were on Oahu, 58 were on Maui, 56 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.

Community testing and vaccination sites will remain at the Kona Community Aquatic Center on Tuesdays and the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Testing and vaccinations are free to the public for non-travel-related purposes.
