Fifty-four new COVID-19 cases were reported on the Big Island Thursday, sending the island’s total case count to 3,839.
Of the 234 new cases reported by the Department of Health on Thursday, 138 were on Oahu, 31 in Maui County and nine on Kauai. Two cases were reported from residents who tested positive out of state.
Since the end of last February, 41,303 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
DOH said Thursday’s reported case count included previously unreported cases from July 26-27 due to an electronic lab reporting system interruption.
The Big Island had a 6.9% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 4% positivity rate on Thursday. Over the last 14 days, 436 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 40.4 cases per day.
There were 114 individuals statewide hospitalized on Thursday including 16 on the Big Island.
Two new deaths attributed to the virus were reported on Thursday with one on Oahu and one from the Big Island. Of the 534 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 411 were on Oahu, 60 were on Maui, 58 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
Community testing and vaccination sites will remain at the Kona Community Aquatic Center on Tuesdays and the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Testing and vaccinations are free to the public for non-travel-related purposes. Alii Health Center in the Keauhou shopping Center will also conduct testing Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
