Big Island adds 80 new COVID-19 cases

The state Department of Health Monday reported 539 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, including 80 on the Big Island.

With the new cases, the Big Island’s tally reached 5,669 and the state 51,739. Hawaii County currently has a 7.2% test positivity rate, just below the the 7.5% positivity rate statewide.

According to the DOH, 8,165 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,421 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 651.7 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 109.1 cases per day.

The department Monday reported no new COVID-related deaths. Of the 552 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 426 were on Oahu, 62 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
