A high surf advisory is in effect for south-facing shores of the Big Island through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
A rising, long-period south swell will produce elevated surf along south facing shores through Wednesday afternoon, Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said Monday. Surf is expected to gradually lower thereafter.
Wave heights of 8 to 12 feet are forecast for the island’s southern and southeastern coasts, forecasters said.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and to exercise caution. The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous.
