The Big Island Saturday reported 126 new cases of COVID-19 of the 763 cases reported statewide.

With the new cases, the Big Island’s tally reached 6,291 and state 55,206. Hawaii County had a 8% positivity rate, just over the statewide 7.9% positivity rate.

According to the DOH, 9,007 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,575 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 659.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 118 cases per day.

On the Big Island, Kailua-Kona and Hilo have reported the most cases over the past two weeks with 410 and 426 cases, respectively.

On Saturday, 39 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Just two of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 11 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Eight of those 11 patients are on ventilators.

Of the 563 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 433 were on Oahu, 64 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.

Note: There is no testing currently scheduled by the county on Sunday, Aug. 22.
