The Big Island saw another day of triple digit COVID cases Saturday with 116 positive results reported.
The state Department of Health reported 938 new COVID-19 cases statewide. Of those, Oahu had 693, Maui County 87 and 31 in Kauai. Eleven cases were from residents out of state.
To date, the state has reported 60,551 cases of which 7,216 have been on the Big Island.
Hawaii County on Saturday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 9%, above the state’s 8.2% positivity rate.
According to the DOH, 9,937 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,760 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 728.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 132.3 cases per day.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 405 and 516 cases, respectively. Meanwhile, Waikoloa and Waimea in South Kohala have reported 69 and 99 cases, respectively. Captain Cook and Honaunau have reported 68 cases in the past two weeks.
On Saturday, 78 people with COVID-19 were remained hospitalized on the Big Island. Four of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 15 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Ten of those 15 COVID patients are on ventilators.
The department also reported five new deaths Saturday, three on Oahu and two in Maui County.
Of the 587 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 453 were on Oahu, 69 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
