Police say the 85-year-old woman bitten by multiple dogs on Aug. 14 in Hawaiian Paradise Park died Sunday at Hilo Medical Care Intensive Care Unit, where she had been since the dog attack.
Police identified the victim in a statement Tuesday afternoon as Dolores Teresa Oskins. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
The mid-August incident occurred on 12th Avenue, after Oskins went searching for her lost dog and multiple neighboring dogs attacked her.
Oskins’s 89-year-old husband and an 88-year-old family member immediately went to her aid and were also attacked by the dogs.
Oskins was bitten about her head, neck, and arms, and had multiple lacerations and puncture wounds. All three victims were taken to the Hilo Medical Center. The two men were treated for their injuries, and released from the hospital.
Following the incident, county animal control officers took two dogs into custody.
The Hilo Criminal Investigations Section is still investigating the incident and will forward the results, when it is completed, to prosecutors.
