95 new COVID cases reported on Big Island

The Department of Health reported 95 new cases on Hawaii Island Wednesday, bringing the island’s cumulative total to 8,490.

Hawaii health officials reported 380 new cases of COVID-19 and no coronavirus-related death across the state. With the new cases, the state’s tally reached 69,144.

According to the DOH, 11,205 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,705 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 714 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 109.4 cases per day.

Hawaii County Wednesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 7.2%, same as the state’s rate.

On Wednesday, 54 people with COVID-19 remained hospitalized on the Big Island. Twenty-eight patients occupied ICU beds with four overflowing the island’s 24 ICU beds. Nine of the beds were occupied by COVID-positive patients. Seven of those nine COVID patients are on ventilators.

Of the 626 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 478 were on Oahu, 77 were in Maui County, 63 were on the Big Island and four on Kauai. Four deaths were among residents outside the state.
