Big Island reports 111 new COVID-19 cases, 1 new coronavirus-related death

The Big Island’s COVID-19 case tally neared 8,900 Sunday with 111 new coronavirus cases reported on the state’s southernmost island. One new coronavirus-related death was also reported on the island.

Hawaii health officials reported a total of 735 new cases of COVID-19 and seven additional coronavirus-related deaths across the state. With the new cases, the state’s tally reached 71,891 and the Big Island’s tally 8,899.

According to the DOH, 9,343 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,432 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 604.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 93.9 cases per day.

Hawaii County Sunday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 7.6%, still above the state’s 7.1% positivity rate.

Seven new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Sunday, two on Kauai, three on Oahu and one each in Maui County and on the Big Island. Of the 660 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 503 were on Oahu, 80 were in Maui County, 66 were on the Big Island and six on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
