The Big Island Tuesday reported 41 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, pushing the island’s tally to 9,022 since late February 2020.
Hawaii health officials reported a total of 423 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s case total to 72,775.
According to the DOH, 8,887 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,354 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 557.3 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 87.3 cases per day.
Hawaii County Tuesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 7.%, above the state’s 6.8% positivity rate.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 379 and 320 cases, respectively. Elsewhere in West Hawaii, Waimea has reported 81 cases, Waikoloa 26, Captain Cook/Honaunau 60 and Kealakekua 61.
On Tuesday, 52 people with COVID-19 were remained hospitalized on the Big Island, a decrease of six from Monday. All of the island’s 24 ICU beds were in use with one overflow ICU bed also in use. Ten of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Six of those 10 COVID patients were on ventilators.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Monday. Of the 660 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 503 were on Oahu, 80 were in Maui County, 66 were on the Big Island and six on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
