Manuel Martinez

Manuel “Marty” Leon Martinez, 92, of Daly City, Calif., and formerly of Hilo, died Aug. 12, 2021, in San Francisco. Born in Honomu, he was retired from RCA in San Francisco, also worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Francisco, U.S. Army Korean War veteran and Hilo High School alumnus.

Services were held in Daly City, Calif. and Hilo and he was interred at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2.

He is survived by sisters, Dolores Vermeulen of Garden Grove, Calif., and Rose Garcia and Isabelle Miranda of Oahu; brothers, Anthony (Daisy) Martines of Kona, and Chris (Toni) Martines of Oahu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Natsuko Ryusaki

Natsuko Ryusaki, 91, of Waimea, died on Sept. 6, 2021, at her residence. Born in Waimea, she was a homemaker, owner of the former Yoso’s Place and a member of the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held.

She is survived by son, Carl (Brigida) Ryusaki of Waimea; daughter, Linda Okumura of Waimea; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sadako Toyama

Sadako “Margie” Nakamura Toyama, 92, of Hilo, died Feb. 8, 2020, on Maui. Born Oct. 13, 1927, in Hilo, she was a retired food service worker for the University of Hawaii at Hilo, former beautician and homemaker.

Private services held.

She is survived by husband, Shigeo Toyama; children, Carol Kagimoto, Daniel Toyama, and Lynn Toyama; sisters, Itsue Yamasaki and Alice Char; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald Okura

Ronald Takeshi Okura, 78, of Honomu, died Sept. 13, 2021, at his residence. Born Feb. 8, 1943, in Ola’a, he was retired from the former Tongg Publishing in Honolulu, was an inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture and U.S. Army veteran.

Private services.

He is survived by wife, Carol Okura of Honolulu; daughters, Phyllis (Paul) Lee of Honomu, and Kristy (Keli’i) Correa of Honolulu; brother, Robert Okura of Honomu; sisters, Sarah Nelson and Sandy (Paul) Kaschmitter of Yakima, Wash.; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
