Kahilu Theatre Galleries is seeking entrants for the “Brilliance of Now, Annual Juried Exhibition” to be displayed Nov. 9 to Jan. 10, 2022, at the Waimea gallery.

“Brilliance of Now” invites visual media artists of Hawaii to explore life and existence in this moment, according to Juror Mina Elison, who is communications director and curator at the Donkey Mill Art Center in North Kona. Rooted in our DNA and memories of the past, the mind oscillates between what has already occurred and thoughts of the future. With evolving realities and shifting perceptions, one is always in a state of flux and change. Validating the concept that now is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is the understanding that we are not who we once were, and we are not who we will be in the future. As creative beings, how can one honor the space we are in right now? What has emerged from acknowledgment of places “traveled” through emotions such as disbelief, wonder, joy and grief? What has been broken and where is there growth? What has been learned and what forgotten? In this time, how does one recognize and celebrate the brilliance of now?

Proposals will be accepted through Café, www.CallForEntry.org through Tuesday, Oct. 12. Submission fee is $30 per entry. Work must be either 2D or 3D and completed after Jan. 1, 2017, by artists currently residing in Hawaii. Work executed under classroom/educational guidance or external supervision is not eligible.

Cash awards will be given to first through third place. The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has approved and scheduled an Acquisition Award Selection Committee visit to the exhibit.
