A high surf advisory is in effect for east-facing shores of the Big Island through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Strong trade winds over and upstream of the islands will keep east shore surf elevated and rough through Tuesday, Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said Monday.
Wave heights of 7 feet to 10 feet are forecast for the island’s eastern, southeastern and northern coasts, forecasters said.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and to exercise caution. The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous.
