Ross Elizares

Ross Elizares, 62, of Hilo, died June 18, 2021. Born in Hilo, he worked at various hotels in Hawaii and was employed with the state Department of Transportation at Hilo International Airport.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sister, Fern Elizares of Waipahu, Oahu; brothers, Jed Elizares of Mesa, Arizona, and Casey Elizares (Laurie Ann) of Keaau; two nieces; a nephew; four grandnephews; and uncles and numerous cousins.

Elena Lopez

Elena “Maria” Corpuz Lopez, 93, of Pahoa, died Sept. 13, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 26, 1928 in Luna, La Union, Philippines, she was a retired nursery worker for Puna Certified Nursery and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. Oct. 16 for a graveside service at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Casual attire.

She is survived by, sons, Gregorio (Cresilda) Lopez of the Philippines, Nicolas (Carlina) Lopez of Keaau, Alejandro (Celia) Lopez of the Philippines, Marcelino (Lizel) Lopez of Honolulu, Oahu and Juan Lopez Jr. of Kona; daughters, Dominga Munoz, Catalina Lopez, Alicia Lopez, Lourdes Lopez, Zosima Lopez, all of the Philippines, and Susana (Vernal Carpio) Lopez of Keaau; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry Gonsalves Sr.

Henry John “Roach” Gonsalves Sr., 66, of Pahoa died Sept. 17, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Oregon City, California, he was a mechanic and a member of the Satan Brigade Big Island motorcycle club.

He is survived by daughters, Candace (Keoni) Sato of Waialua, Oahu, Johnell Deponte of Lake Havasu, Ariona, and Sheanna (Jeffery) Zayas of Copperas Cove, Texas; sons, Henry (Brandie) Gonsalves Jr. of Las Vegas and Desmond Gonsalves of Phoenix; brothers, Salvador Gonsalves, Jr. of California, Leroy Gonsalves of Seattle and Ivan Gonsalves of Pahoa; sister, Conchita Urquhart of Killeen, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Paiva Sr.

Peter “Pete” Allan Paiva Sr., 67, of Papaikou, died Sept. 9, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 26, 1954 in Hilo, he was a mechanic and auto body technician.

He is survived by wife, Darleen Paiva of Papaikou; daughters, Jodi (Ardell) Arias of Papaaloa and Jessica (Kurtis) Carvalho of Puna; son, Peter Paiva Jr. of Papaikou; brother, Michael (Charlotte) Paiva of Honolulu; sisters, Victoria De Luz, Theresa Matthews, and Roxanne Araki, all of Hilo, and Susan Pavao of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Reed Kepaa Jr.

Reed Polani Kepaa Jr., 52, of Pahoa, died Sept. 17, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 17, 1969 in Hilo, he was a mechanic.

Wayne Campbell

Wayne Kamealani Campbell, 68, of Hilo, died Sept. 24, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born June 10, 1953, in Hilo.

He is survived by wife, Aloha Campbell; daughters, Wendy Opiopio, Shana (Keith) Campbell and Shantel (Gabby) Campbell; sons, Emaile (Marni) Quintal, Wayne (Kalena) Campbell and Tyrone (Joanne) Campbell; brother, Bobby Campbell; sister, Anna Worwick; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Asano Matsumoto

Asano Matsumoto, 89, of Holualoa, died Sept. 20, 2021, at her residence. Born Oct. 25, 1931, in Kona, she was a coffee and avocado farmer, and a member of Waiaha Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji Fujinkai and Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

She is survived by sons, Bryan Matsumoto of Holualoa and Sidney (Kerry) Matsumoto of Honomalino; brother, Ichiro Muta of Hawaii Kai, Oahu; sister, Kikue Yamashita of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Juan Pacheco

Juan “Johnny” Pacheco, 85, of Wainaku, died Sept. 15, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 8, 1935, in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company, sweet potato and taro farmer and security guard.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Julie Pacheco; sons, Elvis (Pauline) Pacheco, and Malcolm (Cheryl) Pacheco; daughters, Valerie Pacheco, and Abigail (James) Hynson; brother, Wilfred Pacheco; sisters, Carol Ah Puck, Evelyn (Mario) Fernandez, and Gina Labisores; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Todd Philip Hale, 60, of Keaau, died Oct. 2, 2021, at his residence. Born in Long Beach, California, he was retired loan officer and car salesman.
