Lee Enriques

Lee Enriques, 85, of Hilo, died Sept. 26, 2021 at his residence Born Dec. 7, 1935, in Halaula, North Kohala, he retired as a fire captain with the County of Hawaii Fire Department, was president of NSI-LBE, Inc. and shop manager of Garden Exchange, Ltd., a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Kaumana 1/2 Mile Kumiai, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and an avid fisherman.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for visitation. Private service to follow. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Oct. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Cremation will follow. No flowers.

He is survived by sons, Vernon (Jodi) Enriques of Mililani, Oahu, and Russell (Lisa) Enriques and Jeffrey (Tammy) Enriques-Ikeda, all of Hilo; daughter, Lynne Enriques of Hilo; brother, Donald (Mieko) Enriques of California; sister, Leona Goss of Honolulu; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Thomas Shockley

Thomas “Tom” Eugene Shockley, 86, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 1, 2021, at his residence. Born Jan. 3, 1935, in Fullerton, California, he was the owner operator of Dive Makai and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Private service to be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Akiko Hackett of Kailua-Kona; brother, Ted Morgan of Colorado; sister, Patti Malzahn; daughter-in-law, Denise Shockley both of California; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

May Kamelamela

May Kihawahineluluonamoku Kamelamela, 86, of Hilo died Oct. 5, 2021, at her residence. Born May 5, 1935, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker and a member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou Church in Hilo, Hawaiian Civic Club and Pahoa Booster Club, former member of Hawaiian Bowling Club and Hawaii State Women Bowling Association.

Carol Schaper

Carol Cynthia Schaper, 79, of Hawi, died Oct. 8, 2021, at her residence. Born Jan. 22, 1942, in Floral Park, New York, she was a retired accountant for Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a former certified public accountant and a gardener.

She is survived by husband, Vincent Schaper of Hawi; sons, Vince (Madeline) Schaper of Washington, and Bruce (Colleen) Schaper; daughters, Christine (Kevin) Moreland all of Maryland, ands Rebecca (James Markley) Schaper of Virginia; sister, Eva Brown of California; and nine grandchildren.

Alice Furusho

Alice Kieko Furusho, 94, of Waikoloa, died July 22, 2021, at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Hilo, she ran her own business as Pahala’s only hairdresser for many years and managed the Pahala Movie Theater.

She is survived by daughters, Karleen Shibuya and Jo-Ann Rew, both of Honolulu, and Lois (Andre) Ajimine of Waikoloa; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
