Volunteers needed for Adopt-A-Highway cleanup

Trash Free Hawaii is seeking volunteers for an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup set for Nov. 6 along Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.

Everyone age 12 and older is welcome to attend the event, which organizers Trash Free Hawaii said is a great chance to earn community service hours for youth groups and high school students. The cleanup will take place along a 2-mile stretch of Queen Kaahumanu Highway, between the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) and Hina Lani Street.

Trash Free Hawaii is partnering with local businesses and the Department of Transportation to provide food, beverages,T-shirts/vests and supplies. Police will be on-site the provide traffic safety as well as to educate the public about state laws on littering.

The cleanup will get underway at 8 a.m. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Hina Lani Street and Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
