Hawaii Island police are searching for 25-year-old Brendon Hironaka of Puna who is wanted for questioning regarding a violent domestic dispute Friday afternoon in Kurtistown.

Hironaka is described as being 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 115 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to the Hawaii Police Department, which cautioned members of the public to not approach Hironaka but to contact police if they seem him.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday, Puna patrol officers responded to a reported domestic dispute involving gunshots on Pohaku Drive.

Responding officers learned that Hironaka and a female family member were involved in a verbal dispute when the confrontation turned physical within the living room. Hironaka reportedly started throwing miscellaneous items at her, grabbed the front of her neck, and slammed her head numerous times against various items within the residence, police said.

Hironaka allegedly also forcibly took control of a 25-caliber semi-auto pistol from the female relative and discharged several shots near her. He then left the residence with the firearm and drove away in a 2002 white Toyota Camry bearing license plate ZGR420.

Anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed this incident, or who has information on Hironaka’s whereabouts, should call the police department’s nonemergency line at (808) 935-3311 or Detective Corina Mclellan at (808) 961-2373 or corina.mclellan@hawaiicounty.gov.
