William Townsend

William Keaupuni o’olohuio okalakaua “Chuco” “Will” Townsend, 39, of Hilo, died Oct. 18, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 30, 1982, in Honolulu, he was the co-owner of the Popover Bakery and Cafe in Hilo, Darq Labs Photography and Aloha By The Cup.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at Popover Bakery and Cafe in Hilo for a noon service. Casual attire is requested. Additional services will take place on Oahu at a later date.

He is survived by parents, George and Barbara Townsend of Hilo; brothers, Derek Townsend and Daniel (Gabriela Haldman), all of Hilo; paternal grandfather, William Townsend of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Annelle Freeman of Hilo; maternal grandfather, Paul Bray Jr. of Hilo; one niece; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

William Moniz

William Douglas Moniz, 93, of Hilo, died Oct. 2, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Wainaku, he was a retired warehouse supervisor for Hilo Coast Processing Co. and medic specialist with the Hawaii Army National Guard.

He is survived by spouse, Genevieve Moniz of Hilo; sons, Jason (Jeri) Moniz of Paauilo and Terence Moniz of Volcano; daughter, Jadelyn (Greig) Nakamura of Hilo; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene Kohara

Irene Yoshie Kohara, 92, of Naalehu, died Oct. 19, 2021, at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired cashier with the former Pick and Pay Supermarket in Naalehu and a member of the Naalehu Hongwanji Mission.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 9 for visitation at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Private funeral services and burial to follow. Casual attire; no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Glenn (Lynn) Kohara and Dan Kohara of Naalehu, and Bert (Marlyse) Kohara of Hilo; daughters, Marion (Erich) Stachowske of Michigan and Myra (Stanley) Eugenio of Ookala; brothers, Rex (Charlotte) Yamasaki of Hilo and Ken (Hazel) Yamasaki of Oahu; sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Yokomizo of Oahu and Thelma Nino of California; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sheila Libron

Sheila Leimomi Libron, 56, of Hilo, died Oct. 17, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1965, in Kohala, she was a head utility steward at Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection.

She is survived by hanai sons, Jonah Libron and Jacob Libron, both of Hilo; mother, Elizabeth Libron of Hilo; father, Nario Libron of Kohala; sisters, Lizel Libron Medeiros of Hilo and Narlynn (Blaine) Libron of Kohala; brothers, Ikaika (Malia) Libron Garland Rocha and Kekoa Libron, all of Kohala, and Jeremy Libron, of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; and one great-grandnephew.

Walter Mattos

Walter Robert Mattos, 80, of Hilo, died Sept. 23, 2021, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired carpenter with the State of Hawaii Harbors Division.

He is survived by sons, Eric Mattos of Hilo, Gary Mattos of Baltimore and Russell (Christine) Mattos of Keaau; daughter, Lori Mattos of Hilo; sister, Betty Botelho of Hilo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Laura Gharazeddine

Laura Ruth Gharazeddine, 62, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 26, 2021, at her residence. Born June 22, 1959, in Kingston, New York, she was active in the Hawaii County Democratic Party, served as a convention delegate, precinct president, District 6 chairman and secretary, a member member of Kai Opua Canoe Club and a road rally racer.

She is survived by daughter, Laura McBride of Arizona; siblings, KT Savacool of California, Blair Savercool of New Jersey, Cecile Carpenter of New York, David Savercool of New Jersey; hanai siblings, Brian Cornel of Kailua-Kona, Amy Joy Matsen of Waimea; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joanne Kaohi

Joanne Hardt Kaohi, 87, of Kawaihae, died Oct. 29, 2021, at her residence. Born May 21, 1934 in Portland, Oregon, she was a retired accountant for Theo Davies &Company and member of the University of Oregon Alpha Phi Sorority.

She is survived by son, Ellsworth Kaohi Jr. of Volcano; daughters, Roslyn (Steven) Choi of Kalaheo, Kauai, and Kimberly Kaohi of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous family.
