Two local Rotary clubs recently found ways to show their appreciation to staff at the Kona Community Hospital as part of the clubs’ “Rotary Gives Thanks to our Healthcare Workers” project.
Kona Mauka Rotary assembled 300 custom gift boxes for the hospital workers, filling them with snacks, coffee, gift certificates and homemade pumpkin spice cookies. Several Rotarians decorated a section of the cafeteria and were on-hand to personally thank the hospital employees as they distributed the boxes and beverages.
The Rotary Club of Kona showed its appreciation for the Kona Community Hospital team by bringing two food trucks to the campus and serving either breakfast or lunch. Staff was treated to Big Island Provisions and Sundries serving breakfasts that included Portuguese sausage, eggs, breakfast potatoes, and French toast. For lunch, the Sugar’s food truck cooked up some delicious items including baked potatoes, BBQ pulled pork, rice, salad, and lilikoi cheese cake.

The Kona Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, was created in 1984 to accept gifts and solicit donations for new medical technology, expanded services and enhanced facilities for Kona Community Hospital. Since its inception, the foundation has donated over $5 million dollars toward numerous hospital projects.
